Mother’s Day aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train

My mom and I enjoyed a special weekend together in the Napa Valley for mother’s day. We stayed at Springhill Suites by Marriott, ate at “The Border” on Saturday evening, and had the most amazing journey on the Napa Valley Wine Train.
Spring Hill Suites by Marriott, is a new hotel that just opened earlier this year. The front desk staff was very helpful and courteous and the hotel felt very new and clean.
The Border is a brand new restaurant in Downtown Napa, it is owned by the Jacinto brothers, formerly Executive Chefs for Cindy Pawlcyn. The food is inspired by the state of Oaxaca, Mexico and was scrumptious. It is a nice new addition to Downtown!
Lunch was amazing aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train! Mom and I visited with guests during our three-hour journey. As we were relaxing in the gourmet lounge car on the way up to St. Helena, one gentleman invited his girlfriend to the back observation deck. He got down on one knee and proposed. She accepted the proposal and the entire lounge car was buzzing.
I ordered the “Wine Country Benedict”--grilled beef tenderloin topped with poached egg on an English muffin with a special Béarnaise sauce. I feel like this is one of the best eggs benedict’s ever. Mom ordered the roasted beef tenderloin with grilled squash and rosemary potatoes. Prepared to perfection, she enjoyed every mouth-watering bite.
Chef Kelly Macdonald prepared a special plate of local fruit for dessert. Mom was astounded by the service and attention to detail. She also noticed how many people from the Bay Area were aboard.
We had the most gratifying experience together during my mother’s Napa Valley stay.
