Napa is Foodie Heaven

Napa has been busy courting the press. Rachel Ray was on the Wine Train last Thursday evening filming a segment of her upcoming show. Emeril Lagasse filmed at the Oxbow Public Market for Emeril Green. Also, Iron Chef Morimoto has announced that he has signed a lease at Riverfront. Finally, Chef Michael Chiarello was on Top Chef Masters last week in the running for $100,000 towards his charity of choice.

Last Friday, Chef Kelly Macdonald and I went down to San Francisco to check out the SFChefs event. This event is the first of its kind and is similar to the Aspen Food and Wine Festival. We started the day with chef friends Hubert Keller and Rolan Passot, a class on haute vs. bistro. Keller, with his deep French accent taught us about creamed corn soup and a beautiful heirloom salad. The short rib burger, prepared by Rolan Passot also looked tasty. This duo was absolutely hilarious as they would often make fun of themselves to the audience. We then adventured into the main tasting tent at Union Square where approximately twenty-five restaurants and sixty wineries, breweries, and cocktail showcased their best. The event was well organized, decorated, and everyone worked hard to showcase what they are all about. The wineries being showcased that day were all Napa Vintners. We especially enjoyed the pork belly and watermelon from Momo’s. It was so delicious.

To continue my foodie weekend, I went with my husband on a date to see ‘Julie and Julia’. We are both foodies and we absolutely loved it. The movie is about Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and a modern day woman Julie (Amy Adams) who is inspired by Julia’s dishes. The intertwining of stories showed that food is the interconnection of our life. It brings us together.
