Packing List: Everything You Need for Your Napa Valley Getaway

July 3, 2019 / Style & Decor

You’re off to Napa Valley! Wine tastings, vineyard visits, nights on the town, days spent exploring, all in the beautiful Napa sunshine. We often get asked what’s best to wear aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train so we’re going one step further and giving you our very own packing list so you’ll have everything you need for your Napa Valley getaway.

Layers. From hot sunny days to breezy cool nights, you’re sure to encounter a variety of temperatures regardless of what time of year you visit Napa Valley. To make sure you’re comfortable throughout your daily adventures, pack layers. A light jacket, fashionable scarf, or chic sweater are usually all that you’ll need.

Comfortable shoes. Even if you’ve got the Napa Valley Wine Train to take you to and from your favorite Napa wineries, they’re so stunning that you’re definitely going to want to walk around and explore. To ensure that you stay focused on fine wine and not aching feet, pack flat or wedge shoes that you can spend the day in whether you’re window shopping in downtown Napa or strolling through vineyards.

An evening outfit. We’re pretty laid back here in California and dark denim jeans paired with a nice top will be acceptable pretty much everywhere you go—but that doesn’t mean we don’t like dressing to impress! If you plan on taking advantage of some of the areas outstanding restaurants and culinary scene, pack one more formal outfits to make a night of it.

A day purse or bag. Carry your sunscreen, extra layer, phone and/or camera, and maybe even some snacks around while keeping your hands free. Not to mention, you’ll have a place to store any souvenirs you pick up at winery shops throughout the day.

A swimsuit. Whether you head out to relax by the pool at your hotel or resort or are making a trip to one of Napa Valley’s many top-notch spas, you’re going to want a swimsuit. Besides, we can’t think of a better way to enjoy an afternoon than relaxing poolside with a cool, dry rosé. Don’t forget a pair of flip flops or other poolside sandals!

Sun protection. Speaking of soaking up the sunshine, don’t forget to pack your sunglasses and some broad-spectrum sunscreen. A sun hat is also a great idea—and can be just the thing to take your outfit from fine to fabulous.

Breathable clothing. To help you beat the heat, pack some looser fitting clothing in natural, breathable fabrics, like a linen shirt or cotton sundress.

Packing tip: If you plan on doing a lot of wine tasting on your Napa Valley getaway, then we recommend leaving the perfume and cologne at home. Heavy scents can interfere with the smells of the wine for you and those around you.

What to wear on the Wine Train

As for the ideal Wine Train ensemble, we do not enforce a dress code. We do, however, encourage our guests to dress for the occasion. For many of our guests that means cocktail attire—especially for our dinner trains.

Of course, the best part of a Napa Valley vacation is not what you wear, but what you do! So enjoy your time in Napa, exploring vineyards, eating beautiful meals, and enjoying our stunning scenery.
