When in Napa, time seems to stand still when making memories to last a lifetime though we know it continues to roll along all the while. On New Year’s Eve, we toast to life, history, great wine, quality time, and enjoying the moment. This experience encapsulates all and more harkening back to 1976, a momentous year in the History of Napa, with Stag’s Leap Winery and Chateau Montelena taking first place in a blind wine tasting in Paris, France for best Cabernet and Chardonnay. This firmly placed Napa on the map as a world-class wine-producing region. The winemaker for the best Chardonnay was Mike Grgich and at 100 years old in 2023, we celebrate with a 6-hour excursion on New Year’s Eve complete with a tasting of some of the iconic wines being made today that pays tribute to this 76’ Judgement of Paris, a 3-course gourmet meal onboard our 1915 Pullman train cars, a 2-hour winery party at Mike Grgich’s Rutherford winery wrapping up with a sparkling wine toast to our beating the French in this blind tasting at 3 pm Napa time, which happens to be midnight France time. Then we conclude our journey with dancing on our way back to the station.

Full Day Winery tastings are an indulgence from start to finish. Elegant interiors. Gleaming brass. Sleek fixtures. Smooth marble. The train car, rattling at an easy pace through the extraordinary Napa countryside. Sweeping rows of vines, some there since 1868, whisper stories. By now you’ll have more than a few stories of your own to tell. By the time you come to the end of the line, you don’t want your journey to end.
